December 2019 We have a busy month ahead of us. Our author of the month is Eric Hill, he wrote the Spot the Dogs series. We will be reading many of his books throughout the month. We will start the month off learning about Hibernation and how and where our winter animal friends hibernate. We will also be having a Hibernation Party, we will all get to wear our PJ’s to school and bring in our favorite stuffed friend from home. We will also be learning about building. This will really test our engineering skills. We will be building will be using many different mediums to build. For the last week, we will be learning about our December holidays, making a special gift for our Moms and Dads and having a Holiday Party in our classroom, that our Mommy’s and Daddy’s can attend.
January 2020 Happy New Year and Welcome back. We hope everyone had a wonderful break and enjoyed lots of family time. We start our month off with a new author, Jan Brett, we will be reading about the winter adventures of different animals in her books, The Mitten and The Hat. We will also be learning about different modes of transportation, what flies in the air, floats on water and drives on roads. During our transportation week we will have a visit from a very special friend; Otto the Auto. He will teach us all about car safety and the importance of always using a car seat and seatbelt. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., we will celebrate friendships as well as same and different. We will explore how something, such as different colored eggs. look different on the outside but are the same on the inside. We will learn about arctic animals, where they live, what they eat, and how they adapt and keep warm. Every class will work on an animal for our school mural. We will be preforming many experiments involving ice and snow(hopefully). Along with our science experiments will be books on each subject as well as some wonderful art projects. Finally, we end January by celebrating the Chinese New Year, 2020 is the Year of the Rat. We will be making lanterns as well as many other beautiful decorations which will be used for decorating our school party. It is always an exciting event.
Mr Groundhog didn't see his shadow, so we can look forward to an early Spring. Valentine's Day is also this month and the children will be very busy creating a Valentine for their Mom & Dads as well as many beautiful hearts to decorate our classroom. We will be having a small Valentine's Celebration in class on Valentine's Day. This month our toddler swill be learning a lot of new things. We will be Exploring the Sky, learning about stars and the moon and the planets. We have an exciting week planned learning about Dental health, including a visit from the Dentist. We will learn about our Presidents during President's week. And tackle some Engineering Challenges, by learning how to balance and build using different material. We will end the month learning about many different types of Dinosaurs. Our author of the month is Maurice Sendak, he is the author of Where the Wild thing Are, Nutshell Library and The Little Bear series. we are looking forward to sharing these wonderful stories with the children
We start off March by celebrating our author of the month's birthday; Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss. We will be reading many of his books and doing STEM and art related activities to compliment each one. Our other themes for the month will include Wind and Air, Our 5 Senses and The Rain Forest . During our week about Wind and Air we we be exploring the effects that wind/air has on various objects. We will be experimenting with straws, hair blowers and mini fans. It's always a fun unit. We will be learning about Our 5 Senses, what they are and how we use them. There will be food tastings and smelling as well as observing (seeing) , touching and listening . It is a unit that encourages us to look at and discover many things in multi sensory ways. The Rain Forest is a great unit where we will learn many new words, discover some new animals and learn about the water cycle by making a mini rainforest ; a terrarium . We will be celebrating the Jewish holiday of Purim.Purim is a holiday marked by a joyous celebration. We dress up in our favorite costumes and share gifts of food with friends. It is the Story of Queen Esther. And of course let's not forget about our chick eggs. We are patiently waiting for them to hatch. With this exciting event we will be discussing the life cycle of a chicken and tie it all together by reading Dr. Seuss's , Horton Hatches An Egg. March 19 will be parent /teacher conferences. We will be sending out more information soon, please check your child's backpack.
